This painting is inspired by a true story. Water women existed here in Catalonia. They were so named for their magical and healing powers. Mythology says they were druids or nymphs. But like witches, they were women of flesh and blood.
As a mythological character, they represent femininity, regenerators of life and fertility for the earth.
From my perspective, going a little further. In the painting, the women merge with matter. Water is the only element that is part of every being, every plant, and every space on Earth. It is the element that can exist in different states and flow and transmute in every corner and living space. Everything is formed by its water molecules.
Just as the moon moves the tides, it also moves all the molecules that are part of everything, even inside our bodies. Our blood and cells contain water and regenerate. Everything vibrates, everything moves.
We are matter and we are the elements. Everything comes from the same source, and everything moves in the same way on earth, through water, and through vibration.
